The Elvira Cisneros Senior Community Center by WellMed is a free community resource open to anyone age 60 and older. It opened in Fall 2008 as an initiative of WellMed Medical Management as a gift to the South San Antonio community. More than 5,000 seniors are members today.

The 28,000 square-foot center, the brainchild of Kym Rapier, wife of WellMed Founder Dr. George Rapier -- is named after Elvira Cisneros, a member of the Texas Women's Hall of Fame and mother of former Mayor Henry Cisneros. The senior center features state-of-the-art exercise equipment, a variety of exercise programs, dance and yoga classes, computer room, Wii fit room, library, and more. It also provides a daily lunch for seniors on a donation basis through a partnership with the City of San Antonio's Department of Community Initiatives.

The Cisneros Senior Center is the inspiration for the WellMed Charitable Foundation's senior center initiatives in San Antonio (Alicia Trevino Lopez Senior One-Stop, operated in partnership with the City of San Antonio), Austin (WellMed Charitable Foundation Senior Community Center) and the Rio Grande Valley (Harlingen Senior Center and Cross Roads Senior Center in McAllen).
